Preparing for the 2005 Job Market
Miscelaneous News By Alfasha Zulkifli, MS Information Systems, DePaul University

So, it’s that time of the year again. You are frantically applying finishing touches to your cover letters and fluffing up your resume before sending them off to 500 different companies that you have carefully targeted over the break. You are graduating in six months, and the perfect offer hasn’t come knocking on the door as you expected. Now what do you do? How do you prepare for this year’s market? Were the statistics correct—is the economy really improving? Are there going to be jobs available in this country by the time you graduate, or will they all be shipped offshore, just like your coworkers and friends predicted?

MWSOC Forums Created!
Miscelaneous News I've created some forums for the Midwest Subaru Owners Club. Previously we've only had our small little corner of NASIOC, this will allow us to have our own area free from some of the policies of NASIOC. You can check out the forums here: MWSOC Thanks for checking it out!

MWSOC BBQ at Codean's place a SUCCESS!
Miscelaneous News Wow two great events in a row and this one will be tough to top. Cody and his family allowed us the use of their BEAUTIFUL place in Burlington, WI. Great food, drink and comraderie were had by all. This event marked the debut of what I'm sure all of us would like to see become an annual event as well as Nirmit's stellar homebrewed beer (which was awesome btw.) Don't mind the topic selected, dont have an MWSOC topic icon yet. Check out the pictures here. Anyone that has a login to my site can upload pictures to that gallery that you can link to at NASIOC!

Hactivism spreading. Welcome to the 21rst Century.
Miscelaneous News As reported here by ZdNet hactivism is spreading in response to several recent events. Web page defacement is on the rise by Pro-Islamic cracker groups. Script kiddies around the world are expressing their displeasure at world events by attacking unsecured machines. Groups are systematically targetting core elements of the systems that keep the Internet humming. Its amazing how many things that were merely postulates 25 maybe even 10 years ago are becoming more and more possible now. Authors like William Gibson have always proposed grandiose networks populated by their own underworld. Are we getting there? Are we there already?

Google banning questionable material?
Miscelaneous News Haven't posted much news lately, but here's an attempt to get back into it. Upon first glance, this link over at ZDnet would lead you to believe that Google is filtering questionable content when in fact it is simply their foreign sites that are doing this. Great way to draw me in.. I got some more to say on this.

Eminem a Racist?
Miscelaneous News So all over the entertainment/music websites today is news about The Source magazine's vendetta against Eminem for some supposedly racist comments he made during a freestyle rap as a teenager. Am I the only one who doesn't care?

Not sure what scares me more...
Miscelaneous News The fact that this scientist broke 30 vials containing the bubonic plague or that THIS is supposed to be considered a relief. Apparently a scientist reported 30 vials of the virus missing but cracked under interogation by the FBI. Does this sort of thing happen often? Do scientists periodically knock vials of ebola off their countertops? Read about it here.

ACLU and others sue Bush administration over USA Patriot Act.
Miscelaneous News TechTV reported on this item here. Now some of you may have remembered this item was it was originally being discussed. I for one wrote many letters to my senators and representatives about this act. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Freedom Ship
Miscelaneous News Engineering the impossible? The "Freedom Ship" this ship is literally a floating city, and not a little city either. In fact, it' so big, the Carnival ship "Destiny", the HMS Titanic, the Queen Mary, super tanker Jahre Viking, and even the USS Nimitz can ALL fit comfortably inside... at the same time. They are going to start building this thing in a few months down Honduras. I saw the freedom ship here, first. Only 470 dollars per sq ft! A bargain I say, bargain indeed.
