RS*R Drift Event, Irwindale Speedway, CA
Posted on Wednesday, April 09 @ 23:35:22 EDT by Akira

Motorsports Kinsbane writes "Well, on Sunday, April 6th, racing team RS*R hosted a big drift showoff and competition at Irwindale Speedway in sunny Southern California, and let me tell you, it was HOT down on the track. Don't worry, I took lots of pictures for you and shot a short video. Click below to read on...

Alright if you're here, you're interested in the pics, and the short video clip. First, though, before I give you some linkage for the goodies, here's a summary of events and a rundown of as many cars as I could see that left rubber around the track. All drifters had to arrive at the speedway at about 6-7am (yes, that's morning) to do pre-event runs and get their cars setup. Around this same time, vendors also showed up, like XS Engineering, RMR, and RS*R. Drifters and vendors broke for lunch about 11:30am and at about 12:30pm walked the track for one final run-through to make sure they had the green light. Myself and my buddy strokefactor from NASIOC.com showed up about 1pm and were able to get some good vantage points with no trouble. The drift event started off with the two RS*R cars going at the same time, a Toyota Supra (piloted by Kazu Hayadisha), '03 Nissan 350Z (piloted by Manubu Orido), and Rhys Millen Racing's EVO VII.
After the opening drift, the floodgates opened up with drivers sporting rides like AE86's, Corollas, RX-7s, a 260Z, and an XS Engineering-sponsored, brought-from-Japan-by-MotoRex Nissan Skyline R34.
There was some pretty mean drifting all around from all drivers, and as usual, the umbrella Azn grils walking about and posing for pictures (though not worth it, IMO). The finale of the actual drifting was when the RS*R 350Z and Supra did a multi-lap drift battle, ending up with two very shredded tires for each car. After the cleanup from that mess, everyone gathered around the RS*R tent for the awards. As a matter of fact, I didn't stay around for the awards, though in retrospect, I should have. So, now that you've heard some about the event, you can go check out my online photo gallery available here.
If you're interested in scoping the video, I have two links for you, one optimized for 56k, and one for broadband, both in Windows Media Player format. Grab the broadband video clip here, and get the 56K Dial-Up version here. RS*R's Official USA Site If you guys dig the pics, and the video, lemme know. Send me a PM here or fling me some digimail at kinsbane@fo-shizzle.com . Peace!"
